Autumn 2

Welcome back to Squirrel Class – we have a very busy half term planned. This half term our theme is ‘Once upon a time’. We are learning about stories from different cultures e.g. Aladdin.

We are learning about different religions and special celebrations. It is the build up to Christmas so we be very creative making cards and treats.

Every Wednesday, we work on our health and fitness in our PE lessons. This half term we are developing our hockey skills.

Finally, we love our weekly lesson with Tom. He makes outdoor learning great fun!

Week Beginning 13 December 2021

For our final week, Squirrel Class have been enjoying lots of festive activities. We have made snowflakes to decorate the windows, made party hats to wear for Christmas dinner, played games, watched Christmas films and been creative painting and colouring. We have had lots of fun!

So from Everyone in Squirrel Class, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

WOW moments: All Squirrel Class pupils, for being really good friends and sharing and caring. They have been thinking of others during this festive period.

Stars of the Week: Logan for entertaining us with his Christmas acting, singing and dancing! A star is born!

 

Week Beginning 06 December 2021

This week, we have been getting into the festive spirit. Firstly, we loved watching the school Christmas production. Squirrel Class definitely recommend it! We all dressed for the glitzy premiere and celebrated the special event.

We have also been very busy making cards and decorations to sell at the Christmas Fayre. We hope to see you all there!

WOW moments: Brianne for amazing climbing during our PE lesson.

Stars of the Week: William for great writing about the Christmas story. Well done, William you are getting more confident at writing!

Week Beginning 29 November 2021

Another busy week – this week we had the opportunity to go and watch Aladdin at The Cast in Doncaster. All the pupils loved the production and had an amazing time. We wrote some reviews about the pantomime.

Squirrel Class have also been busy developing their money skills. They have loved playing different games on the computer.

WOW moments: The whole of Squirrel Class their great behaviour at the pantomime – A big well done!!

Stars of the Week: Brianne for fabulous money work. She was amazing calculating change.

Week Beginning 22 November 2021

Wow! Another week has flown past. This week, Squirrel Class enjoyed a musical performance from Live Music Now – The duo played different instruments and talked about beat, pulse and rhythm which linked to our science and creativity work.

On Thursday, we went to the Lions Christmas Party. All pupils had a fab time and loved dancing to the music and watching a magician.

Week Beginning 15 November 2021

Hello again from Squirrel Class. This week, it was anti-bullying week and we participated in a theatre presentation about sharing and being good friends. All the pupils loved it and promised to be good friends.

We also enjoyed our PE lesson, where we were continuing to develop our hockey skills. We are starting to play mini-games within the class. William said, “That was good fun.”

WOW moments: William for great blending when reading his book and great segmenting when writing his own spellings.

 

Stars of the Week: Larissa for great signing and singing during our communication lesson.

 

Week Beginning 08 November 2021

Another week has flown past and we have been very busy. This week, we had our first music session with Rachel. We were singing and signing our favourite songs. Logan said, “It was amazing.”

 

We also loved our science and music lesson, where we were playing the samba drums. Louie loved playing the drums loudly and to the Queen song “We will Rock You.”

 

WOW moments: The whole of Squirrel Class for their great signing and singing with Rachel.

 

Stars of the Week: Brianne and Louie for adding and subtracting 4/5 digit numbers.

 

Week Beginning 01 November 2021

This week we have been busy writing speeches and voting for Pupil Parliament. All pupils in Squirrel want to have a voice in their learning. We have also looked at Bonfire Night and the Gunpowder plot. We made chocolate apples in our cookery lesson – Yum!

In Forest school, the pupils made maps using natural resources.

WOW moments: Pollie for walking every day in school.

Star of the Week: Larissa for excellent behaviour and good listening.

 

Autumn 1

This half term, we are learning to be ‘Street Detectives’ by investigating are local area. We are looking at the natural environment in Forest School and having lots of fun learning outdoors.

We are also developing our independent living skills through daily breakfast club and week food technology sessions.

Every Thursday, we enjoy our PE sessions, especially chase games. This half term we are developing our throwing and target work skills.

Wellbeing is a vital part of our curriculum and we love to dance and sing. We also include yoga and mindfulness activities in our daily routine so that we are ‘Just Right’ for learning.

 

Week Beginning 11 October 2021

Squirrel Class have had a fantastic last week of term. We have worked hard and had lots of fun. This week we have been working on patterns (pegboards, matching socks and cubes) and problem solving in mathematics.

We have also looked at different careers that we would and wouldn’t like to do in the local community. We used our computing skills to type our answers.

WOW moments: Pollie for great walking using her walking frame.

WOW Moments

Congratulations to Louie in Squirrel Class for winning first prize in the Opportunities Doncaster Art Competition.

Louie was asked to draw a picture of ‘What Doncaster Means to Me.’ He drew the giraffes from the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

Well done, Louie.

Week Beginning 04 October 2021

Squirrel Class have had another exciting week. All pupils loved Forest School where they made noughts and crosses games from natural resources. They also loved lighting a fire and making a hot drink for themselves.

Dark Day – On Thursday, we had a dark day with no technology – The pupils loved the different activities where we painted, played games and had lots of fun.

WOW moments: All the class for joining in the hockey lesson and trying really hard to develop their ball skills.

Star of the Week: Korri for being caring and helpful to his friends.

 

Week Beginning 27 September 2021

Squirrel Class have had another busy but enjoyable week. We have been continuing to develop our computing skills and have been writing our names, changing font style and colour. We also searched the internet for different jobs and have been copying and pasting images.

In art we continued our work on Street Detectives and have been painting pictures of our house.

WOW moments: Aimee for independently using her communication iPad to form simple sentences.

Star of the Week: William for showing great resilience during his outdoor learning – using a flint to create a spark to start a fire.

 

Week Beginning 20 September 2021

This week, we have made the most of the Autumn sunshine and have taken our learning outside the classroom. Korri loved going on a shape hunt in the playground and Aimee enjoyed sorting pentagons and hexagons.

On Wednesday, all pupils loved a musical production of Treasure Island. Summer gave it two thumbs up and Logan loved the music and dancing.

WOW moments: Brianne for leading a game of bingo with her peers and congratulating her friend for winning.

Star of the Week: Pollie for self-propelling her wheelchair in school and trying to be as independent as possible.
