Updated handwashing advice

It is essential that everyone washes their hands more often, using soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Hand washing with soap employs mechanical action that loosens bacteria and viruses from the skin, rinsing them into the drain. Drying hands afterwards makes the skin less hospitable to the virus. Hand sanitiser can be effective if soap is not available or the situation makes using soap less feasible (i.e. when outside) but using hand sanitiser provides none of the virus-destroying friction that rubbing your hands together and rinsing with water provides.

A Message from Mindfulness in Schools Project

We are waiting to hear how this will pan out for small charities like ours. But in the meantime, we wanted to do something positive whilst the world is now pretty unfamiliar, and for, many frightening. We therefore launched a daily online mindfulness session yesterday, where we can ‘Sit Together’. Meeting at 11am every week day, these sessions are suitable for anyone, whether experienced mindfulness practitioners or absolute beginners, and last about 20 minutes. Children and young people are very welcome if accompanied by an adult. We had 55 attendees yesterday and 158 today, and it has been so heartwarming and inspirational to see so many people gather together to support each other. As well as the practice, just a smile and a wave from so many people is uplifting.

So I am warmly inviting you, your colleagues, staff in your schools and the wider community to drop in and join us. Please find and share details here: If you can’t make it tomorrow, just drop in any week day when you can. We’d love to see you there.

Do take care, and sending very best wishes to the whole Doncaster community.
